Trump Criticizes CBS Over “60 Minutes” Editing of Kamala Harris Interview

Must read

Former President Donald Trump has voiced strong criticism against CBS News, accusing the network of manipulating comments made by Vice President Kamala Harris during a recent 60 Minutes election special. Trump claims the segment was deliberately edited to improve Harris’ responses, calling it a “Fake News Scam” on his social media platform, Truth Social.

“A giant Fake News Scam by CBS & 60 Minutes,” Trump posted. “Her REAL ANSWER WAS CRAZY, OR DUMB, so they actually REPLACED it with another answer in order to save her or, at least, make her look better. A FAKE NEWS SCAM, which is totally illegal.”

Trump escalated his remarks by demanding the revocation of CBS’ broadcasting license, saying, “TAKE AWAY THE CBS LICENSE. Election Interference. She is a Moron, and the Fake News Media wants to hide that fact. An UNPRECEDENTED SCANDAL!!!”

CBS Faces Criticism Over Harris Interview Edits

The controversy centers on an exchange between Vice President Harris and 60 Minutes correspondent Bill Whitaker. Harris was questioned about the Biden administration’s relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In an extended version aired on Face The Nation, Harris delivered a lengthy, criticized response, described by some as a “word salad.” However, for the primetime airing of 60 Minutes, her answer was shortened and more concise, which led to accusations of media bias.

Critics, including Trump, argue that CBS News intentionally cleaned up Harris’ response to protect her image. CBS has not yet responded to these allegations.

Trump Repeats Claims During Detroit Speech

Trump repeated his claims of media interference during a speech to the Detroit Economic Club, stating that CBS and the Democratic Party worked together in what he called “the single biggest scandal in broadcast history.”

FCC Chair Defends Free Speech Amid Controversy

FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel addressed Trump’s call to revoke CBS’ license, reaffirming the importance of free speech in a democracy. “While repeated attacks against broadcast stations by the former President may now be familiar, these threats against free speech are serious and should not be ignored,” Rosenworcel said. She added that the FCC would not revoke licenses based on content disagreements from political figures.

The Harris campaign, distancing itself from the controversy, stated that it had no role in CBS’ editorial decisions, reiterating that questions about the edits should be directed to the network.
