Kamala Harris’s policies have shifted dramatically from her stances just four years ago, leaving many questioning what she truly stands for. Although she has walked back some of her previous positions, the few economic proposals she has revealed raise significant concerns.

Price Fixing: Harris supports price fixing, a policy with a history of causing shortages and market distortions. It’s an impractical idea that’s proven ineffective. In a free market, if a company is price gouging, consumers can respond by not purchasing their products. While capitalism isn’t perfect, it’s our most successful economic system.

$25,000 Toward Down Payments for First-Time Homebuyers: While free money may sound appealing, this proposal would almost certainly lead to immediate home price inflation. Recipients would pay for it twice—through taxes and inflated mortgage principals. Government intervention in markets like education and healthcare has consistently driven costs up, and housing would likely be no different.

Taxing Unrealized Capital Gains: This proposal is economically unsound and morally questionable. Taxing theoretical profits on assets that haven’t been sold is a form of government overreach that borders on theft. Imagine being taxed on the fluctuating value of a property for 20 years, only to sell it in a down market, and still owe capital gains taxes without receiving a refund for the years you overpaid. The complications are endless and highlight the absurdity of such a policy.

The limited policies Harris has outlined are deeply flawed. But what’s more concerning is her history of flip-flopping on major issues. Just a few years ago, she advocated banning fracking, defunding the police, dismantling ICE, enacting a mandatory gun buyback (essentially confiscation), and making electric vehicles mandatory. Yet, as these positions polled poorly, she backtracked on every single one of them.

Harris also supported universal healthcare that would eliminate private insurance, only to reverse her stance when it became politically inconvenient. With such a track record, voters wonder what they’re voting for. Harris’s past and present policies are troubling, and it’s hard to believe she’s genuinely changed her views on every major issue.
