Early Voting Kicks Off in Maryland and Mississippi Amid Key Downballot Races

Must read

Maryland and Mississippi have joined the growing list of states starting early and absentee voting today, adding to the nearly 20 states already underway, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Virginia. While these states are not battlegrounds in the presidential race, key down-ballot contests, particularly Maryland’s Senate race, are drawing significant attention.

Maryland Senate Race in the Spotlight

Maryland’s Senate race is shaping to be one of the most closely watched contests. The last time Maryland elected a Republican senator was in 1980, but former Republican Governor Larry Hogan gave Democrats a run for their money. Hogan, known for his moderate stance and vocal criticism of former President Donald Trump, is tied with Democratic challenger Angela Alsobrooks in a recent poll.

Alsobrooks, a former county executive and prosecutor, is leveraging her experience and the state’s Democratic-leaning voter base to gain an edge. According to Fox News Power Rankings, this race is currently rated “Leans D.”
