Iran Plots to Assassinate Trump, Campaign Warns of ‘Real and Specific Threats’

Former President Donald Trump was briefed on Tuesday about “real and specific threats” from Iran to assassinate him, according to his campaign. The threats are reportedly part of Iran’s broader strategy to destabilize the United States as tensions rise ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

Trump Campaign Communications Director Steven Cheung stated that the Islamic Republic is attempting to “sow chaos in the United States” through targeted actions against the former president.

“Intelligence officials have identified that these continued and coordinated attacks have heightened in the past few months, and law enforcement officials across all agencies are working to ensure President Trump is protected and the election is free from interference,” Cheung said in a press release.

Cheung criticized the current administration’s approach to Iran, contrasting it with Trump’s stance on national security. “Make no mistake, the terror regime in Iran loves the weakness of Kamala Harris and is terrified of the strength and resolve of President Trump. He will let nothing stop him or get in his way to fight for the American people and to Make America Great Again,” he added.

As Iran’s threats escalate, Trump remains a focal point of their antagonism, reflecting ongoing hostilities that have intensified since his administration. Trump’s tough stance on Iran, including his withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal and the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, have marked him as a target for retaliation.

With election security a growing concern, Trump’s campaign is highlighting these threats to emphasize the stakes of the upcoming election and draw a sharp contrast between Trump’s policies and those of the current administration.
