One decision—or, more accurately, one “tactical move”—changed everything. We were headed toward another Trump vs. Biden showdown. Not that everything was going perfectly, but the momentum was there. Then something happened. Democrats, thinking they were being strategic, shot themselves in the foot. Insisting that the debate be held on CNN was a critical mistake.

For years, the right has pointed out Biden’s mental decline, and his struggles have been increasingly evident over the last couple of years. But we were told these signs were just “cheap fakes,” and that narrative worked. The media ran with it, especially on CNN and MSNBC, where whatever they broadcast becomes gospel for their viewers.

But then, Democrats made the fatal error of demanding the debate air on CNN. The problem? Their supporters watch CNN. Suddenly, the truth was out. Biden could no longer hide his cognitive issues. The narrative might have held together if the debate had been on Fox. But no, Democrats did this to themselves. The blame lies squarely with them and CNN.

The last few years have felt like a mix between Jimmy Carter’s presidency and Weekend at Bernie’s. If they were so committed to covering up Biden’s issues, why put the debate on CNN? Sure, people will say Biden’s campaign ended when he dropped out on Sunday, but the actual end came when the debate moderator asked Trump for a rebuttal, and Trump responded, “I don’t know what he just said, and I don’t think he does either.” That was the moment it was all over.
